Wally Reitz has the distinction of being the longest active driver in
FIRA having joined in 1979.
Wally grew up in an open wheel racing family, his Father Benny started racing
Sprint cars before they were called "Sprint" cars, way back in 1911.
Wally started driving his fathers Sprinter in the 60s, in the 70s they tried
their hand at Midgets.
They saw the MMRA now FIRA racing in Joliet IL. His wife Barb liked them,
he liked them, the rest is FIRA history.
Wally and Barb have together held every office in FIRA from President
on down, Barb has been the Secretary/Treasurer since the mid 90s until stepping
down at the end of 2004.
Barb is still Wally's Partner,Crew Chief, Crew, Scorer, Timer, Critic and anything else you care
to name.
They have one son, David.
David passed away in late November of
2004. He will always be with us in our hearts & memories.
David was survived by their Daughter in law Jennifer and Grand Daughter Kaitlyn Marie.
Barb & Wally
Racing's car is a WAR hawk designed and built by Wally and Barb. It is a
semi-monocoque
chassis powered by a Ski-Doo 600 Triple.
Accomplishments in FIRA:
3 championships 1991, 2000 & 2002.
Won the 1990 & 91 Nationals Short Track Championships at Rockford Speedway, IL.
Won every Feature event and swept all but 2 qualifying events at Raceway Park, IL.
from 1998 - 2001.
